While doing late-night paperwork, Charlie gets an anonymous folder addressed to him, including three sheets of laminated plastic with different colored marker bars etched over them and an antique penny inscribed with a code, and he spends the night figuring out what the encrypted message inside means. The morning after, he gets Suzy to help him put everything together, and they eventually come to find out that by cross referencing the code on the penny to the student files, the ID matches with Penny’s. Then, by taking her printed file and laying over each sheet with the bars marking out specific letters, the message reads that whoever sent the letter knows everything about what Charlie did in his hometown of Detroit before becoming a guard, and vaguely warns about keeping “the girl” safe. He leaves to look after Gyssabel while Suzy starts running close tabs on Penny.
